Lee and Yoo have a warm, soulful chemistry that indicates that their bond transcends the strictures of a traditional love affair. Past Lives smartly examines how compromise, regret, missed opportunities, time and distance affect relationships - and how those invisible factors inform our romantic choices as much as hormones or storybook meet-cutes. It’s a sign of the wit and sophistication of Song’s poetic screenplay that the insecure Arthur admits to Nora that, if their lives were fiction, he would represent the boring husband who kept her away from the man she’s obviously destined to be with. Past Lives never demonises any of its characters, appreciating that life doesn’t work like the movies, where the people who are supposed to be together inevitably wind up in each other’s arms. (But perhaps there’s more to it than that: subtly, Lee’s enigmatic portrayal suggests that Nora doesn’t want to return to Seoul metaphorically or literally, viewing Hae Sung as part of her past.) Nora and Hae Sung clearly share a spark, but they never actually become romantically involved - in part because the 24-year-old Nora seems reluctant to pursue it, understandable since they’re so far from each other geographically at that point in their lives. The film’s realistic treatment of love is anchored by Lee’s beautifully controlled performance. Instead, In-Yun is explored as a philosophical notion, with the central trio debating the merits of having a chain of past lives connecting ourselves to others. Plenty of love stories touch on fate, chance and a cosmic sense of destiny, but one is hard-pressed to think of any as elegant as Past Lives, which features no fantastical elements. Song, herself a playwright, investigates the notion of In-Yun, a Korean concept which argues that our current selves (and the people in our orbit) are merely the most recent version of our past lives. Twelve years later, though, they’ll reunite in New York, despite the fact that Nora is married to Arthur (John Magaro), a novelist. But after a difficult conversation initiated by Nora concerning expectations over where their platonic relationship is headed, they fall out of each other’s lives again. Cutting to 12 years later, Past Lives finds Hae Sung (still living in South Korea and now played by Teo Yoo) reconnecting with Nora (now a playwright in New York and played by Lee) on Facebook, the two picking up their friendship over Skype. Heartbroken, Hae Sung gives her a cursory goodbye, but their paths are destined to cross again. In Seoul 24 years ago, 12-year-old Nora (Moon Seung-ah) and Hae Sung (Leem Seung-min) are close friends who have a crush on one another, but their adolescent stirrings don’t have time to develop: Nora’s family is moving to Toronto. The film’s thoughtful time-jumping romance will draw favourable comparisons to Richard Linklater’s Before trilogy, which similarly looked at the evolution of love over the decades from an intelligent, mature perspective. There are three superb performances at the picture’s centre, but none is more radiant than that of Greta Lee, gracefully capturing the spirit of a searching soul who seems to understand things about the nuances of love that are beyond the grasp of the rest of us.Īnyone who falls under the spell of this devastating film will feel altered from the experienceĪ24 will be releasing Past Lives, which just premiered at Sundance. Making an utterly assured feature debut, writer-director Celine Song modulates the delicate tonal balance of this wise, wistful film perfectly, dividing her narrative into three distinct segments - following the characters when they’re roughly 12, 24 and 36 - with each passage more moving than the last. The rare love story that’s both impossibly romantic and crushingly pragmatic, Past Lives follows two people who might be soulmates, even though they have never kissed and haven’t been in the same city in 24 years.

Here we’ll really punch the contrast to a new level by applying a slight HDR toning effect: I saved my LAB colored image to have it as a backup just in case. Finally, create a Stamp Visible Layer Shift+Cmd+Option+E Shift+Ctrl+Alt+E and duplicate that new layer back into your original file.Below you can see what kind of curve I created to arrive at the blue tint, while bringing back some of the orange/yellow from the skin:. Now create another Curves adjustment layer and we’ll play with the B channel this time.Staying in the Lightness channel, I created a slight S-Curve to increase the contrast even more. Now go into the new image, and select Image > Mode > Lab Color. That step is not necessary, but it allows me to work in the LAB color mode without the possibility of messing anything up with my original image. Here I like to copy my layer to a new file: Right click on the layer, select Duplicate Layer, and choose New.Here we’ll go into LAB mode for blue coloring, and then go back to RGB to proceed with the rest of the retouching: It allows separation of the lightness information from the color information and can be used for some great effects and coloring. LAB stands for Lightness, A & B and it’s a color mode that can be used instead of RGB or CMYK. Here I increased it to the maximum value of +100. Increase the clarity by quite a bit until it looks good.
Every time I build something from wood I feel like I learn a ton. These homemade feet were free! You barely see them anyways, so it felt like a good place to save. I really wanted some bun feet, but between the feet and the mounting plates, it was going to be more than I wanted to spend. In the spirit of using what I had, I ended up making some simple feet with stacked scraps of plywood. This project was my first time building a cabinet, and my first time installing hinges! I thought I might be biting off more than I could chew by using full overlay hinges, but they were actually really easy to install. I'm hoping to make something more substantial later. I made a quick unlined envelope closure cover for it and attached it to the cabinet with some velcro. I used some carolina gingham* I had in my stash. I saved it and used it along with some batting scraps to make a cushion. I had some recycled denim insulation that we received as packing material in a delivery meal kit a few years ago. The cushion is the one element that will probably be changed at some point. I added a couple of layers of Shellac to them when I shellacked the rest of the cabinet. It was actually leftover craft paint from Target. I painted them this fun purple/pink for a pop of color. I knew I wanted something oversized and these 1 13/16" wooden knobs were just the thing. One of the few things I bought for this project were these knobs. I don't even remember why I bought it in the first place! Can you sense how spoiled she is already? I actually had a small piece of 1/4" plywood on hand that I could use for the back. I added a mat and also a motion sensor light. Her litter box fits inside with room to spare. I'm not the most proficient with a jig saw, so a reactangular opening felt like the way to go. How cute is the little door for her? I probably could have made it a little smaller, but I wanted to be sure she would go in and out! I originally wanted to do a fun shape like an arch or house shaped openeing, but ended up deciding to keep it simple. I wanted the cabinet to double as a lookout spot for her! To build the cabinet I used pocket hold construction. I based the size around what I could cut from that plywood, the size of her litter box and the height that our windows are off the ground. I had most of a 3/4" sheet of plywood in the garage leftover from making our open kitchen shelves a few years ago. I kept the design really simple, just a straightforward rectangular cabinet. I'm happy to say I think I acheived all three of those goals! In an effort to keep it more contained and hidden, I decided to build a cabinet for it! My goals for this project were for it to be functional, cute, and to primarily use materials I already had on hand. I built a hidden litter box cabinet for Miss Dusty Kitty! Since our basement is unfinished (ie: too many things for her to get into), I knew we'd need to keep her box upstairs. Happy Wednesday! Today I have my most recent woodworking project to share! This was a big project for me, despite it's small size, and I'm so excited about how it turned out. The answer is no, Cacti Seltzer is not made with tequila. To do it with a shaker, carefully toss all of the contents of the glass into the shaker and then from the shaker back into the glass. Is Cacti Seltzer made with tequila? This question has been on many people’s minds since the release of Cacti Seltzer. Then, give everything a couple good stirs. To do it in the glass, grab your bar spoon and insert it into the glass. You can either do it in the glass or with the shaker. There are two options for getting this drink mixed together. Pour it directly into the glass until the glass is almost topped off. Use a jigger and measure 0.75 oz of vodka. Use the jigger and measure 0.75 oz of coconut rum. Use the jigger and measure 0.75 oz of Midori. Use the jigger and measure 2.5 oz of pineapple juice. Put the top on your shaker and shake carefully so that the club soda does not fizz too much. When you get to the club soda add 1 to 2 oz. Then, pour all the ingredients straight into the shaker. If you’re building this drink in the shaker, first fill it with ice. This is the recommended way to make this drink, however, if you prefer to build it in your cocktail shaker you can. Note: for the instructions below, we’ll be building this drink directly in the glass. The highball glass should be almost completely full of ice. Toss a couple handfuls of ice into your highball glass. Gather everything you need to mix this cocktail up including highball glass, jigger, bar spoon or cocktail shaker, Midori, coconut rum, vodka, pineapple juice, ice and club soda. With five ingredients, it takes around 5 minutes to get this one ready to drink. This drink is relatively easy to shake up. Some similar pineapple cocktails are: Jamaican Me Crazy Drink and the Hypnotiq Martini. 5 oz of amaretto sometimes with a sour mix added in. The other cactus juice cocktail is made with completely different ingredients. Note: there are actually two cocktails with this same name. This schnapps is a green color which will add to the bright color of this cocktail and it has a margarita-like flavor. Amp up one of the flavors already in this drink by using a flavored vodka such as pineapple vodka or coconut vodka. If you’re looking for a few ways to change this drink up, try one of these out: With its bright color and light busy flavor this drink is perfect for serving at times such as: Midori is a sweet melon flavored liqueur made from honeydew and Yubari melons that originated in Japan. It really is a contributor to the color of this cocktail. Midori is a bright neon green colored liqueur. The yellow color of the pineapple juice is a big part of the color of this cocktail. This will help to really have the tangy yet sweet pure pineapple flavor. When choosing a pineapple juice to use in this cocktail, it’s best to get a 100% pineapple juice and not a juice that is a cocktail. Vodka is a clear liquor that is very neutral flavored. The vodka in the strength really just adds a slight alcoholic bite. This is due to the fact that after adding in coconut, sugar and other additives to rum the resulting liqueur is a lower alcohol by volume. It is a perfect summer drink.Ĭoconut rum is actually considered a liqueur and not a true rum. The resulting greenish yellow cocktail is light, fizzy and has a pineapple melon flavor. What is a Cactus Juice Drink?Ī cactus juice drink is made of coconut rum, vodka, Midori, pineapple juice and club soda. It’s super easy to shake up and has a light, refreshing fruity flavor. This cactus juice drink is a brightly colored yellow-ish green cocktail. Occassional Cocktails may earn compensation from purchases made after clicking links on this page.

The second features Aquaman and Mera (Amber Heard) exploring the surface world. The first is Aquaman (Jason Momoa) soaking wet and splashing in a wave. Not to say they won't get rid of the helmet anyways. It'd be like changing the joker's color scheme from green/purple to blue/orange. Black Manta's helmet is about the most iconic thing as far as Aquaman's rogue gallery goes. And Yahya Abdul-Mateen II seemingly cant wait. #Aquaman: 7 exclusive photos reveal King Orm, Vulko, Mera, more - Entertainment Weekly June 14, 2018 James Wan (director) has said before that he wants to keep the look and feel of the comics as much as possible. Black Manta was one of the best parts of the first Aquaman, and the sequel looks like the character will be back and badder than ever. The boxes will fly-up and hit Oogie on his platform. From there, you swat the boxes that come out on the conveyor belt by hitting the TRIANGLE Button. This will allow you to teleport to his conveyor belt. So you have to wait until the tunnel in front the conveyor belt you're on and the one Oogie Boogie is hovering above, matches. The only thing is that the tunnel you run through will only spit you out of a tunnel with a blue ring around it. When he slides from conveyer belt to conveyor belt, you have to run up to the tunnel in front of the conveyor belt and teleport to the one he's above. Oogie Boogie sits-up on a platform above any one of them at a time. This is one of the more complex boss fights of the game. Proceed into his factory area and you should find Oogie Boogie there, ready to give you your second boss challenge for this world. Head back toward Christmas Town and into Santa's house. It just might take quite a while.Īt this point you will learn that Maleficent has somehow brought Oogie Boogie back to life. If you keep swatting and nailing your hits, he'll come down. When you are ready to go into battle, run up the hill and jump-off the end of the curl toward Prison Keeper. Keep an eye on where Prison Keeper is and keep the hill between you and him. If your HP starts to get low, just run behind the hill in the middle and heal there. The challenge with him is getting up in the air high enough to get to him so you can get some hits in. Prison Keeper is not as hard has he looks. Go to Curly Hill and get ready for a boss battle. You'll notice that they go all the way back to graveyard, and through a gate that you could not pass through before. Follow their footprints back to Halloween Town. You soon realize that there is trouble because here it is quite sinister, and Lock Stock and Barrel have something to do with it. Question though, people's voices changing due to old age (like Mark Hamill) I can understand, but how is that possible for someone's voice to change when they reach adulthood when their voice already changed when they went through puberty during their teen years? My voice got deeper when I was about 14 and my voice has been the same since (I'm in my 20s now).Go into Santa's house and talk to him. I didn't even recognize it was him when he did the voice lines for KH1 because he was so young that his voice for Sora sounded like a 10 year old instead of a 14 year old, which is how old Sora was in the first game. It doesn't make sense to me really, he was about 17 when he did voice lines for KH2 but then in 2008 (where ReCoM was released in NA) his voice is suddenly deeper, he was 20 when he did the lines for ReCoM. I'm so glad he enjoys his role on the same level as James Wood enjoying his role of Disney's Hades.Įver since I played ReCoM and years later when I started the demo for DDD on my old 3DS, I didn't recognize it was the same guy who did Sora's voice for KH2 because of how his voice was deeper. We may never find out though, unless Lea mentions it, because if Yen Sid did bequeath to him I don't think we will ever see it in a flashback or anything, because I suspect Yen Sid's Keyblade is going to be one of those things that we know exists but will never actually see. I think it's fair to say Yen Sid wouldn't bequeath to Lea without assessing the strength of his heart, but I don't think he would have assessed whether Lea could forge a Keyblade without being bequeathed to, because we still don't know whether or not that is even possible, and I personally lean towards no. I wouldn't be surprised if whoever invented the first Keyblade as the only person who ever made one completely on their own. Even the Master of Masters was almost certainly bequeathed to, since he had wielded the Keyblade since he was a child, and was one of many even back then. Sora is the only wielder we know 100% for sure has never been bequeathed to, and he is a special case for literally everything. I guess my question would be whether it's even possible to forge your own without having been bequeathed to. of Baldock (Jackson’s Oxford Journal, April 27, 1811)ġ812 Death – Martha PRYOR, about 68 years old. of Ampthill to Miss Martha Pryor, daughter of John Pryor, esq. In Somalia, the hardest hit are internally displaced people who are already in dire need of humanitarian assistance after fleeing drought and conflict-stricken areas. Floods have washed away entire villages, wiping out homes, farmlands, and the critical infrastructure necessary to support a swift recovery and movement of people, goods, and much-needed humanitarian aid. “What we are witnessing in Kenya, Somalia, and Ethiopia is yet another devastating blow to an already fragile humanitarian situation. Mercy Corps Regional Director for Africa, Melaku Yirga, says: In 2022 alone, 32.6 million new disaster displacements were registered worldwide, notably due to floods (59%) and storms (31%). Devastating floods have already killed hundreds and displaced more than 2 million people, including over 1 million in Somalia, 600,000 in Ethiopia, and 460,000 in Kenya.Īccording to the Internal Displacement Monitoring Centre, an average of 26 million new displacements have been recorded globally each year from 2018 to 2022 due to the impact of various climate disasters. While world leaders gather at COP28 in Dubai, a new and deadly climate disaster is unfolding across the Horn of Africa following intense rainfall linked to the El Niño climate phenomenon. Some people with a history of blood sugar imbalance have a hard time achieving this, but it is totally possible. Ideally, with optimal blood sugar balance people should be able to eat three meals a day without snacks. I’d say try them together, see how you do–if it doesn’t seem to work, space them out. I do believe in going with our guts and listening to how we feel. How do you feel when you eat the smoothie with the meal? I don’t really believe in the food combining theories, most isn’t backed with science. If you are still experiencing such severe symptoms I would definitely want to make sure you were working with a good doc □ I know a lot of people have experienced successes and need less medication with AIP, but others still need to have that piece of the puzzle figured out. Have you found a doctor to help read your labs and medicate you if needed? A lot of us with Hashi’s (myself included) need some thyroid replacement hormone in addition to diet and lifestyle changes to feel our best. Add 4 tablespoons of Great Lakes Gelatin to the blender, and blend again until smooth. Remove the lid, and allow the mixture to cool slightly. I like to make this smoothie with some greens and spinach to add some antioxidants, and you can easily substitute for different varieties of greens or frozen fruit that you have on hand. Place lemon juice and blueberries into a high speed blender, or food processor, and blend until smooth. While I recommend homemade bone brothas the best source for getting gut healing nutrients like gelatin and collagen into your diet (along with important minerals like calcium, magnesium, and phosphorus), adding some collagen is definitely going to turn a otherwise sugar-laden smoothie into something a little more nutritious. That being said, I do think it is possible to make a nutrient-dense smoothie that could be a solution to a last-minute snack or an occasional quick breakfast (read: not every day!) with the addition of coconut concentrate to add some fat (sub with avocado if you are sensitive to coconut) and some collagen powderto add some gut-healing amino acids (don’t try this with gelatin, which is only soluble in hot water). The truth is, there is no complete protein powder that is compatible with the Autoimmune Protocol, and having smoothies without protein or fat is not advisable either–a lot of us are looking to balance our blood sugar, and a high-glycemic smoothie first thing in the morning is certainly not setting us up for success the rest of the day. I know a lot of you are struggling with quick meal ideas for when you need to be on-the-go and I get asked all the time if there is a protein powder that is acceptable on the Autoimmune Protocolor if smoothies are ok for breakfast.
